Many reasons contribute to machining distortion of aluminum plate products, such as raw material property, finished product shapes and processing conditions. Generally speaking, there are three reasons: work-blank internal stress, cutting and cutting heat, and clamping force.
It’s an effective way to reduce machining distortion by decrease internal stress of the work-blank aluminum plate products. Vibration treatment of natural or manual work can help to relieve part of the stress. With large blank work for smaller products, prior processing proves to be an effective way, too. Right cutting tools play an essential role in reducing possibility of machining distortion of aluminum plate products. First, producers should be careful while deciding geometrical parameters of cutting tools. Under the condition that the blade is strong enough, the front angle of a knife should be as big as possible. This helps to make sharp blades and reduce possibility of cutting distortion so that scraps can be removed smoothly. In this way cutting force and cutting temperature are decreased. It’s worth mentioning that negative rake is not recommended. The choice of clearance angle should depend on cutting thickness. For rough mill clearance angle should be small to deal with heavy feeding amount and large heat dissipation, while for precise mill it should be larger to reduce frictional force between the knife and cut edges of aluminum plate products so that the elastic deformation will be lower. Helix angle should be as big as possible with a purpose to cut down milling force. As for tool cutting edge angle, it should be narrowed properly to improve heat dissipation.
